Academic freedom
About the section
With growing threats to Academic Freedom, this collection aims to highlight the importance of safeguarding this fundamental principle of academia. Academic Freedom is not just a cornerstone of scholarly inquiry; it is essential for fostering innovation, critical thinking, and the pursuit of knowledge. However, it faces increasing challenges, including political interference, censorship, and financial constraints and the corporatization of higher education institutions.
This collection delves into the many facets of Academic Freedom—exploring its role in empowering educators and researchers, and its contribution to societal progress. It also highlights why Academic Freedom must remain central to academia’s mission. In an era where truth is often contested, this collection aims to inspire collective action to uphold Academic Freedom. This collection features the voices of Peter Maassen Professor at the University of Oslo, Antoine Petit of the French National Centre for Scientific Research, Andrea Peto Professor at the Central European University, amongst many others who insightfully share their opinions on the current state of Academic Freedom in a blend of panel discussions and commentaries.
