Fusion now: a coalition for commercialization

Published on April 2nd, 2026

Fusion energy has long been seen as a distant solution, but recent advances are bringing it closer to commercial reality. The challenge now is not proving the science, but building the industrial ecosystem required for deployment. In this session, speakers examined what it will take to move from experimental success to scalable, economically viable fusion energy.

The full session can be viewed in the recording below.

Key takeaways

  • Fusion has achieved key scientific milestones but is not yet commercially viable

  • The main bottleneck is industrialization, not physics

  • Enabling technologies such as advanced materials and AI are critical

  • Supply chains must scale alongside technological development

  • Government policy is shifting toward market creation and demand signals

Policy recommendation

Use innovation procurement and stable market signals to de-risk early plants and scale critical supply chains.
